Trying to go too
far, too fast....a
philosophical overview |
|
Tuesday, November 15, 2011, for Vancouver Local Election: Candidates responses to SMNA policy questions |
|
Friday, July 29th, 2011: After about 170 speakers, 3 long
nights and many presentation extensions which lasted until about
2 am, council then deliberated and passed the rezoning
application, subject to the City Staff's report and extra memo
report recommendations.
The vote was : Robertson for, Louie for, Meggs for, Reimer for,
Stevenson for, Deal for, Chow opposed, Cadman opposed,
Woodsworth opposed, Anton opposed. Jang was on leave of absence.
Thank you to all the SMNA members and their supporters for all
the hard work and dedication over the last months, and
especially during the grueling late night sessions to which we
have been subjugated. We lost this vote, but that was not
unexpected. Note that the vote was by no means unanimous, and
the vote split was interesting with it's implications for
November's upcoming Civic elections.
We feel we have gained much more than we have lost. This issue
of dysfunctional city planning has now gone City- wide due to
our efforts, as has the conduct of council meetings. We now
effectively number in the thousands thanks to the efforts of
City Hall Watch and all other neighbourhood groups.

Who we are:
We are a registered non-profit association representing the residents living in the Shannon Mews
neighbourhood
(the 10-acre estate located at Granville and 57th Avenue).
Our neighbourhood:
Why we exist:
We formed in October 2010 as a direct result of the recent
redevelopment proposal of the
Shannon Mews estate by its owner, Wall Financial Corporation.
This scale of the
redevelopment proposal has raised serious
concerns
in our members. Our
goals:
-
Raise awareness
of ALL
neighbours about the
details of the
rezoning applications;
-
Devise and initiate effective
actions for SMNA members during the rezoning process;
-
Assist and encourage all
neighbours to take action personally in all phases of the process;
-
Convey to the City and City
Council the views of our members about the scale and character of the
redevelopment
proposals in the
context of the neighbourhood and the City.
We welcome
ALL
neighbours who share our
concerns
to become SMNA members and support SMNA activities. |
